Derecho Storm - a photo on Flickriver

Derecho Storm

            My view of this deadly storm that wreaked havoc killing at least 10 people and knocking so many trees dropping hydro poles causing widespread power outages. This storm formed over southwestern Ontario Saturday morning as cold air blew in from Michigan. It raced east across the country side hitting Ottawa in mid afternoon without much warning. Named “derecho “ a storm across a broad area moving a long distance with winds all in a straight line not rotating. Ottawa’s biggest gust reached 120 km/h and Quebec as much as 145 km/h, the equivalent of hurricane force gusts. It hit me as I just got off scootering highway 50 in Quebec at 4pm, and I viewed the cloud onset photographed above as I drove into Grenville Quebec where I was protected by a gas station. If it hit me on the highway 5 minutes earlier I definitely would have crashed driving my scooter. 
So sad that a coworker of mine, pharmacist Joanne Labelle, died when struck by a tree felled by this storm where she was camping. Officers are continuing their investigation into this terrible incident. 
Fortunately for me after 15 minutes saved at the gas station in Grenville I scootered back home safely and photographed the road behind me below…
