Norsund & Smit Waterloo [DSCN7580] - a photo on Flickriver

            Not the greatest shot, but it shows former River Mersey stalwart tug Smit Waterloo being prepared for towage to its new home port.

The tug ahead of her is the Norsund which arrived in Liverpool earlier this week from Kaliningrad in Russia. 

The location is Huskisson No.1 Branch Dock in Liverpool Docks.

This able Voith-Schneider tug, built locally by McTay Marine in 1987, has served a number of owners since she was built, namely Alexandra Towing, Howard Smith Towing, Adsteam Marine, Smit UK, Kotug-Smit and finally Boluda Towage NW Europe, though she has not been renamed or rebadged into their Company scheme.

She is now 32 years old. With a bollard pull of 40 tonnes, she is still a handy tug, but because of her age is now considered “out of class” by her Classification Society (Lloyds Register) and she has been sold by Boluda Towage NW Europe to a Russian operator.
