Christmas in the House of Representatives

A somewhat abstract view of the Christmas tree in the House of Representatives Chamber of the Texas State Capitol in Austin.

Despite the fact that I only took it a week ago, this image made my Best of 2011 list. It's one of the few zoom shots I've taken where I was successful in keeping a portion of the image sharp while using other features to create the starburst. The secret here was to use a really long exposure (4 seconds) and only zoom through a short portion of this time. The result is just as I wanted. This is, by the way, straight out of the camera with no post-processing at all other than the standard camera settings I apply on import to Lightroom.
