(Yet Another Picture of the) Texas State Capitol Dome

If you've looked at my photostream for any length of time, you'll know that the Texas State Capitol is one of my favourite locations (my default location, really). Access there is superb and it's open all hours. When my initial plan to shoot macros at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center had to be cancelled due to rain, it's probably no surprise that I headed back downtown to play in the Capitol.

The main reason I was so keen to try this shot today was to compare with my previous versions taken with the D70 and D90. Last weekend, I treated myself to a new toy, a D700 with Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens and that's what I used here. This shot comprises 6 brackets, 1 stop apart (the D700 autobracketing maxes out at 1 stop intervals). I definitely notice far lower noise in the final HDR than I used to get with 2 stop bracketing on the D90 and, thanks to the new lens, the sharpness is way better (look at the original size to see what I mean). Overall, I am extremely chuffed with the new equipment!
