Roof & Stained Glass, St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York

Thank goodness for small, fast, sharp lenses. St. Patrick's Cathedral doesn't allow tripods which is not really surprising given how many people are in there wandering around. As a result, I had to make do with my Gorillapod bent over the back of one of the pews to take this shot. If you've used a Gorillapod, you will know that they're not really great at holding the weight of a largish DSLR and a zoom lens but I was fortunate in this case. The lens I used was a 35mm f2.0 which I had bought about 2 hours earlier during a pilgrimage to B&H Photo a few blocks further downtown. It was perfect not only because it had the right angle of view but also because it wasn't heavy enough to cause significant wobble problems on the small tripod.

I've deliberately processed this image to be brighter than I remember the cathedral being. The colours are pretty much as I remember them but you can make out a whole lot more detail in this than I noticed while I was taking the picture.
