Paleau De Les Arts | Valencia - a photo on Flickriver

The Park of Arts and Sciences is a feast of architectural design.

For any photographer interested in architecture it feels like being in your favourite childhood sweetshop. This was shot on my first day in the Park where I focussed on just one of the buildings, the Palau De Les Arts.

The external structure of the building resembles a spaceship straight out of Star Trek. Although it was a bright day with only a small amount of cloud cover, I tried to capture the building in monochrome. I used long exposure to create more interesting patterns in the clouds.

I initially saved a series of different raw settings in camera raw, using each of these as a sperate layer in Photoshop, each with its own layer mask (five in total). I then selectively painted in each of the areas to achieve the overall effect.
