Demi negara

            A particularly patriotic migrant worker (probably from Pakistan or Bangladesh) manning a roadside sewing machine.

"Demi negara yang tercinta, dicurahkan bakti penuh setia...". I heard that song on the radio today, it's been awhile since I heard it last. And this photo came to mind.

I'm quite used to being among foreign general workers, both in my previous job & also in my current doctorate study. I find that most of them are honest hardworking people, especially the Bangladeshis. Most won't look for trouble and are mainly looking for money to send back home to their families. Of course, things vary from person to person but that is the general case. It is a pity then, that I also discovered that most of them are being taken advantage of in one way or another in this country of ours, chiefly by those who wield some sort of power. It's a damn shame. After all, if you delve down deep enough, you'll find that at the core, we are all the same, and we all want the same things. Money, love, happiness, etc. 

Something to think about on a lazy weekday afternoon.
