A plena luz de sol sucede el día,
el día sol, el silencioso sello
extendido en los campos del camino.

Yo soy un hombre luz, con tanta rosa,
con tanta claridad destinada
que llegaré a morirme de fulgor.

Y no divido el mundo en dos mitades,
en dos esferas negras o amarillas
sino que lo mantengo a plena luz
como una sola uva de topacio.

Hace tiempo, allá lejos,
puse los pies en un país tan claro
que hasta la noche era fosforescente:
sigo oyendo el rumor de aquella luz,
ámbar redondo es todo el cielo:
el azúcar azul sube del mar.

Otra vez, ya se sabe, y para siempre
sumo y agrego luz al patriotismo:
mis deberes son duramente diurnos:
debo entregar y abrir nuevas ventanas,
establecer la claridad invicta
y aunque no me comprendan, continuar
mi propaganda de cristalería.

No sé por qué le toca a un enlutado
de origen, a un producto del invierno,
a un provinciano con olor a lluvia
esta reverberante profesión.
