46/366/4063 (July 27, 2019) - Visit to See The Rehabilitating White Squirrels in Olney, Illinois - July 27th, 2019

            A few months ago, I learned about the white squirrels in Olney, Illinois.  This Southern Illinois city has one of the notable populations of white or albino squirrels.  They are albinos because they have the red tint in their eyes.  Through facebook, I connected with Belinda Henton, a certified wildlife rehabilitator and she invited me to look her up when we got into town.  Very glad we did.  Pam and I went out to visit.  She had a newborn albino (you can tell by the white in the nails) who needs to be bottle fed as it fell out of a nest.  It will be touch and go, but this little one will need to be fed every two hours.  Then there was Rocky Dale.  Rocky Dale seems to have suffered some brain damage as a result of a fall.  He can move around, but only turns left (so he picked up the name Dale to honor the NASCAR legend).  She let me hold Rocky Dale and he climbed all over me.  It was amazing and the most fun I have had in a good while.  She said that Rocky Dale is not like that with everyone - so that felt good.  I will have more squirrel pictures for sure - but here are the pictures from my wonderful visit to see Belinda and her husband Tom.
