Mothers Day Irises

            A group of Western Blue Flag Iris (Iris missouriensis) congregate in the spring air as twilight brings a close to Mother's Day in a meadow near Boulder, Colorado.

This is the second Mother's Day in a row that the family has ambled down this particular path, and there are some noticeable differences between the two years. Flowers are not as far along this year after a colder, wetter spring. The 8th-grader-soon-to-be-high-schooler is quite a bit taller this year compared to a year ago as well. Hopefully this is a tradition we can keep up for a few more years while both boys still live with us. To me, the bursting of flowers and the celebrating of Mothers is deeply intertwined.

Technical notes: Hand-held, 2-shot focus stack that could have used a 3rd and 4th. However, family members were getting cold waiting, so this will have to do!
