Local otter - a photo on Flickriver

Local otter

            I'm lucky to have a nice, but reasonably small lake a couple of mins from my front door. It's been my walk for the last couple of years. Sometimes I go 3 or 4 times a day, just to get out for a stroll. 
There's a decent amount of wildlife there and I'm normally looking out for the kingfishers. These have been lacking for the last month or two, but this fella has taken up residence. I used to see him a fair bit, then he disappeared. However the last few days he's come back. Decided I would take the camera down there this morning to see if I could get a shot of him. Normally it's just a fleeting glance and he is gone. Today however I got there at 6am and spent a good 1 1/2hrs tracking him round the lake and snapping an image or two where I could. 
One funny moment was when I sat on one of the fishing pontoons waiting quietly, when suddenly there was a loud splash under my bum. He had come up right beneath me, which is about 6 inches below. I nearly jumped out of my skin. Then 5 seconds later he put his head out of the water about a metre infront of me. He looked at me, I looked at him and I'm not sure who was the mist shocked to see each other. Far too close for the big lens I had with me. Not that it mattered because in the blinked of an eye he was gone. 

A great hour or so and one I will repeat tomorrow, with my daughter, if she can be bothered to get out of bed in the morning.
