From Latin paene, meaning "almost” and umbra, meaning “shadow”. That place where there is both light and darkness partially. Many times we think of the penumbra as a transition from light to dark or dark to light, but let's be honest with ourselves. We fear going completely into either the light or the darkness because of what they might reveal or conceal. So we find our comfort zone. A place that is largely grey and neutral, where we exist figuratively, never moving too far into either the light or the darkness. But if we have imagination and we dare we can all move more into the light. We are all under the same sun.
