Shards bring happiness by Hans van Bentem at railwaystation Groningen Noord

            Shards bring luck consists of fourteen concrete slabs, one and a half meters high and wide. On each plate shards are processed into patterns of mosaics. In the middle of the panels there are handmade ceramic objects made by the artist.

Of Bentem was inspired by the thought and world of Anne de Ruijter de Wildt, the sociology student who was murdered at the North Station in 1997. The ceramic objects (such as peace signs and hearts) represent the "naïve, positive view of a girl who wanted to change the world," said the artist. The artist processed the shards Anne de Ruijter de Wildt gathered during her life - to make it a mosaic - in the artworks.
