Flickriver

            Eine Kirche, die nie als solche benutzt wurde, beherbergt die nationale portugiesische Ruhmeshalle, den Panteão Nacional in Lissabon. Sagt man in Portugal "wie die Bauarbeiten von Santa Engrácia", meint man etwas, das nie fertig wird. Tatsächlich dauerten die 1682 begonnenen Bauarbeiten etwa 350 Jahre und waren erst Mitte des 20. Jhs. fertig.

A church that was never used as such is home to the Portuguese national hall of fame, the Panteão Nacional in Lisbon. When people in Portugal say ‘like the building work of Santa Engrácia’, they mean something that will never be finished. In fact, the construction work, which began in 1682, took around 350 years and was only completed in the mid-20th century.
