Bartholdi Fountain BW - a photo on Flickriver

Bartholdi Park lies at the south east base of Capitol Hill near the Botanic Garden.

It was created by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi for the 1876 International Centennial Exhibition and originally placed in the center of the Mall after the exhibition.

The fountain was one of the first monuments in DC to use gas lamps. The fountain was intended to allegorically represent Light and Water. Electric lighting replaced the gas lamps in 1915.
