History

The development of this anti-aircraft vehicle began
In 1950 using the chassis of a modified M41 Walker
Bulldog tank. Without a radar fire control system,
The effectiveness of the M42 declined sharply as the 
Soviets fielded a new generation of high speed
Ground support jet aircraft.

M42’s were used by U.S. forces in Vietnam where the
Absence of enemy aircraft led to their use in
Perimeter defense, base security and as convoy
Escorts. The high rate of fire and heavy projectile
Weight of the 40MM round proved very effective in
Suppressing enemy fire in dense jungle conditions.
