ARR 4324 JBER 20 May 14 - a photo on Flickriver

ARR 4324 leads the daily southbound Denali Star through Elmendorf AFB just moments outside of the yard confines in Anchorage. This is our 28th entry in the Alaska Revisited series.

If you look at the mountaintop directly above the 4324, you'll see some white dots scattered across the top. That's not lingering snow; rather, it's the remains of Nike Site Summit, a nuclear missile defense shield that protected Ft. Richardson, Elmendorf AFB, and Anchorage from Soviet bomber formations. If you're a nerd about the Cold War, this is one of those remnants you must visit while you're in Alaska! More info on this site and about the Nike missile program can be found here:
