The light at the end of the tunnel - a photo on Flickriver

            Aaargh! I'm blinded! My dark vision has gone!

Looking towards the north end of the Scotland Street Yard tunnel from inside it.

Few people appreciate just how well the human eye can see in the dark once it has become fully dark adapted, which takes several minutes of extreme darkness, and is instantly destroyed by light. In a very dim room a dark adapted person can see all the people and furniture and move around easily, while non-dark-adapted people can't see a thing.

So you can walk up this tunnel in the dark if you take the time to become dark adapted, and are careful to avoid looking at any light.
