A Better Pop-up Flash - a photo on Flickriver

The other possibility is to use the card to bounce the light back onto a large forward facing white card. This delivers a lot more of the power forwards than a ceiling bounce, and has the same effect as a similar bounce card used on a flashgun. As with the previous ceiling bounce card this could be made more efficient by using a shallower tailor made card line with silver foil for the first bounce.

This set up uses a small forward bounce card for purposes of illustration. In practice a much bigger one is better, as in the next photograph.
