WOOF! - a photo on Flickriver

WOOF!

            My strobist happy family set :-)

Three grades of woof, with flash guide numbers in metres at ISO 100 and 34mm (35mm film equiv) of 28, 45, and 60, which is approx doubling in power (or stepping up one f stop) each time. All three are old fashioned film camera thyristor controlled guns which can be preset to an ISO and f stop and then use their own gun-mounted sensor to control the light output. No TTL, although the Metz 45 could do TTL flash control given extra optional camera-specific accessories.

The Vivitar runs off 4 AAs, mounts on a hot shoe, and has several manual levels. The Metz 45 CL-4 runs off 6 AAs, has three manual levels, and is bracket mount or handle held. It also has a small optional front facing fill-in flash for use as a bounce flash accessory. The Metz 60 CT-1 runs off a heavy lead acid dryfit accumulator in a separate power pack and has only one manual level, full power. If carrying the Metz 60 the power pack slings over the shoulder on a strap. But its main virtue (for me) is being able to stand in a corner and brightly light a big room with tireless fast cycling high power ceiling bounce flash.

Both Metzs also have a special extra low power mode (approx 1/64th) designed to recycle faster than you can shoot.
