New Colours of Ross Fountain: 2 - a photo on Flickriver

            The cast iron Ross Fountain is in the process of being rebuilt after problems in the foundations, and with leaks, have been corrected. It used to be painted an old gold. They have taken the opportunity to repaint it in new colours. Its original colours are not known. They've chosen new colours inspired by the colouring of a similar fountain in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The scheme seems to be a pale green for the structural parts and the drapery of the various figures, gold for decorative detail, and a chocolate brown for the skin and hair of the figures. 

The brown seems rather dark and obscuring of detail to me, especially given that it is gloss and therefore prone to specular reflections. The colour scheme in general seems to me a bit Disneyfied, a bit on the over-vivid and garish side.

This figure is from the third tier of the sculpture. There is one more tier to arrive. That is a single figure of a standing almost nude womnan, atop the pedestal visible here, holding a torch aloft.
