The Church and the Atheist: 2 - a photo on Flickriver

David Hume was denied a position in the university during his lifetime because of his atheism. Instead he was found a post as the librarian of the Faculty of Advocates. His statue, just opposite the Faculty of Advocates here, also happens to be in front of St Giles Cathedral, the Mother Church of Presbyterianism.

[Technical note: This is a revised version of this earlier image. Both are derived from the same RAW file. The earlier image was converted from RAW and edited in Picasa, This one was converted from RAW by RawShooter, which has better controls and captures a little more detail. The perspective was then corrected by PTLens to align the verticals. Both images were then scaled dwon in to a size which their sharpness warranted.
Despite the extra stages and more extensive image processing of the second version, the result was a more detailed image which permitted presentation as a larger image. I chose this image as a test case because it contains very fine detail in the windows and a very wide dynamic range between the sunlit stone and the shadowed bronze statue.]
