Troll Pro Allp Tech descender: open front

            This is a very heavy industrial strength rope descender and lock. The red carabiner is attached to your support harness. It's very easy to use, offers extremely simple and very fine one handed control of movement speed over a very wide range of rope thicknesses and speeds, including very slow creeps and a secure dead stop. It's also quite easy to yank it upwards when unloaded. It's very kind to ropes (and carabiners :-), using no teeth and adding no twist, and using rope-grooved well polished stainless steel rounded surfaces for all rope frictional contact (and to hold the carabiner).

This makes it a very good device for dangling on a rope and moving around precisely in order to get an exact position for doing something with two hands while dangling comfortably on a rope, such as taking photographs or repairing drain pipes. I like its control so much that despite its weight it's now always on my belt when I'm roping about in a tree.

When snapped shut, when the two purple face plates are aligned, the spinning butterfly nut at the back offers very easy adjustment to rope size and maximum speed of descent. The big lever is then rotated downwards against a mild spring so that it can be grabbed in a handful including the whole device. The tighter you grab it, the faster you descend, in a very controllable manner, up to a maximum set by the easily spun butterfly nut, which can be set to quite slow and reliably consistent maximum speeds of descents. Let go, and the lever snaps up and the device grabs the rope in a dead stop.
