Reversed 19mm lens as macro: two pound coin detail 2

This is a full size image of the small central circle of a two pound (UK sterling) coin. The 19mm WA lens used reversed in this way as a macro lens is prety much a fixed focus fixed magnfication lens. This is the magnfication you get, you can't zoom in or out to different magnifications by changing focus. It was shot at f8 as that seemed to give the best edge to edge detail. The image was rather soft, but like diffraction softening (which of course it may be) it's the kind of detail-containing softness which responds well to sharpening.

Unfortunately the bright specular highlights from the side lighting are blown out. The dynamic range of the metal surface in this kind of lighting is too much to contain both shadow detail in the troughs and highlight detail in the peaks of the furrowed detail. More experiment with lighting this is required.
