Half tone magnified, old fashioned "pixels"

This is a magnified view of a fragment of the half tone print of Stoddard's late 19th century photograph of Princes Street and the Castle seen from Calton Hill. The right hand edge of the Castle is on the left edge of this image. The clickable address of the photograph of the full size print is below.

This is very roughly a 2:1 macro photograph taken with a reversed 28mm lens, i.e. a lens with a camera mount adapter screwed into the lens filter ring, thus enabling the lens to be mounted backwards on the camera.
