Tram ticket machines at Edinburgh Airport

            I'd been puzzled by the long ongoing absence of any electronic infrastructure at the Edinburgh Airport tram stop, long after all other stops had had their machines installed and tested. Part of the answer to that is the decision to have a more railway-like entrance to the stop, with all the ticket machines outside the platform at the entrance. The other part of the answer is that the tram stop entrance canopy, which will be able to shelter passengers from Scottish wind and rain much better than the fashionably skimpy stainless steel sunshade on the platform, was only finished in a great rush at the last minute.

The good news for holders of the privileged Edinburgh city bus pass is that it works as a free pass (for half an hour after validation by the pass validation machine) for the entire tram line, including the special more expensive airport price zone.

But of course if you use your pensioner's bus pass you won't get one of the special first edition "platinum" (aka "gray") tickets. I was sad to see a number of pensioners with city bus passes paying for their tram ride just to get one of the "platinum" tickets. I even met one who'd bought three "as an investment".
