Sekonic L-328 dies, replaced with Sekonic L-308S

            My Sekonic L-328 flash meter has served me well for over twenty years. It was originally purchased for manually setting up remote flash guns back in the old days when you used long wires and Y junctions to trigger them. It was fine a few months ago. Now it's started reporting ambient light exposures which are several stops down, and flash exposures which are complete nonsense. It seems to get worse each time I switch it off and on. New batteries and cleaned contacts make no difference. Taking it apart and nudging all the control pots back and forth (ending at the same setting) makes no difference. So I declared it dead.

I find a flash meter still very useful for setting up a number of manually controlled flashguns quickly, a lot more quickly than repeatedly checking shots on the camera's histogram. It's also quite useful for checking ambient lighting to see whether I should change lenses without going to the bother of fishing out the camera and trying it out to see whether the existing lens on the camera has a large enough aperture, checking the balance of interior and exterior light levels when shooting interiors with a bit of window view included. A handy tool I've got used to using.

The L-308S seems to do all the same things in a cheaper package and not quite so easily informative display. But all the information is there.
