Chenille du papillon Machaon ( Papilio machaon )

            La chenille du Machaon ne cherche pas à se dissimuler, et si elle ne peut pas grand chose contre l'oeil du jardinier, et encore moins contre la semelle de ses chaussures, elle dispose par ailleurs d'un organe répulsif apte à dissuader ses prédateurs naturels de "consommer". Appelé "osmeterium", cet organe bifide est orangé, particulièrement malodorant, et invaginé en arrière de la tête . Quelque peu "gonflable", il se déploie et s'érige, quand la chenille est agressée, ou inquiétée.

The caterpillar of Swallowtail does not seek to hide itself, and if it can not do much against the eye of the gardener, and even less against the sole of his shoes, it also has a repulsive organ able to dissuade its predators of "consume". Called "osmeterium", this bifid organ is orange, particularly smelly, and invaginated behind the head. Somewhat "inflatable", it unfolds and rises, when the caterpillar is assaulted, or worried.
