Martin pêcheur d'Europe femelle ( Alcedo atthis )

            Insociable et farouche, le Martin-pêcheur consacre une grande partie de ses journées à la surveillance du territoire. On l'observe le plus souvent passant en trombe, d'un vol direct comme une flèche scintillante, au-dessus de l'eau, s'arrêtant souvent sur des perchoirs favoris pour visiter ses lieux de pêche. Immobile sur son perchoir, il scrute la surface du plan d'eau en attendant patiemment qu'une proie se présente favorablement.

Unsociable and fierce, the Kingfisher devotes a large part of his days to the surveillance of the territory. It is most often observed as a whirlwind, a direct flight like a glittering arrow, above the water, often stopping on favorite perches to visit its fishing grounds. Standing motionless on his perch, he scrutinizes the surface of the water, waiting patiently for prey to present himself favorably.
