Bergeronnette grise ( Motacilla alba )

            C'est la bergeronnette la plus commune et la plus familière. Elle se rencontre dans un environnement urbain et suburbain et partout à la campagne. Aucun autre oiseau des jardins ne combine aussi bien la livrée blanche et noire et la longue queue qu'elle hoche perpétuellement, ce qui lui vaut d'ailleurs son nom populaire de hochequeue. Le mâle est plus foncé que la femelle, avec la calotte, la gorge, la bavette et le dos noir ; le dessous est blanc avec des rayures blanches sur les ailes. Les femelles ont un dos gris foncé et moins de noir sur la gorge. La queue est noire avec des plumes extérieures blanches. Les couleurs sont moins vives chez le mâle durant l'hiver et chez la femelle toute l'année. En hiver, le mâle et la femelle ont la gorge blanche, mais se reconnaissent à une zone noire en forme de croissant dans le haut de la poitrine. Les jeunes ressemblent aux jeunes bergeronnettes des ruisseaux, mais avec des sous-caudales blanches (et non jaunes) et une zone sombre sur la poitrine.

This is the most common and familiar wagtail. It is found in an urban and suburban environment and everywhere in the countryside. No other garden bird combines the white and black livery as well as the long tail that it constantly shakes, which is why it is popularly known as Louisqueue. The male is darker than the female, with the cap, throat, bib and black back; the underside is white with white stripes on the wings. Females have a dark gray back and less black on the throat. The tail is black with white outer feathers. The colors are less bright in the male during the winter and in the female all year round. In winter, the male and female have white throats, but are recognizable by a crescent-shaped black area in the upper chest. The young are similar to the young wagtails in the streams, but with white (and non-yellow) sub-caudals and a dark area on the chest.
