The remains of an old cathedral - a photo on Flickriver

            The old Saint-Vincent (to distinguish from the current Saint-Vincent cathedral built at the beginning of the 19th century), was the cathedral of Mâcon from the 11th century, when it was built, until the French Revolution. 
Around 1795, part of the church threatened to collapse. It was then decided to demolish it, because the cost of the repair was considered prohibitive. The demolition took place in 1799. Only the narthex and the towers were preserved.

We see here the facade and the towers of this old church. It's all that's left of it. It had impressive dimensions.

Les restes d'une ancienne cathédrale

Le vieux Saint-Vincent (pour distinguer de la cathédrale Saint-Vincent actuelle bâtie au début du 19ème siècle), fut la cathédrale de Mâcon du 11ème siècle, époque de sa construction, jusqu'à la Révolution française. 
Vers 1795, une partie de l'église menaçait de s'écrouler. Il fut alors décidé de la démolir, car le coût de la réparation fut jugé prohibitif. La démolition eu lieu en 1799. Seuls le narthex et les tours furent conservés. 

On voit ici la façade et les tours de cette ancienne église. C'est tout ce qui reste d'elle. Elle avait des dimensions imposantes.
