A masterpiece of marble and painting (explored)

This remarkable altarpiece in carved marble with these beautiful paintings was a shock. We do not expect to find such a masterpiece in the church of a small town of 1800 inhabitants!
It dates from the 17th century and was acquired by the parish in 1795.
It comes from the Chapel of the Visitation in Aix, which received it as a gift from Laure Marcinozzi, Duchess of Modena, niece of Cardinal Mazarin.
The iconography of the altarpiece is related to the Order of the Visitation: in the center, the canvas of the Visitation, surrounded on both sides by the Presentation of the Virgin and of the Nativity.

Un chef d'oeuvre de marbre et de peinture

Ce retable remarquable en marbre sculpté avec ces tableaux de toute beauté a été un choc. On ne s'attend pas à trouver pareil chef d'oeuvre dans l'église d'une petite commune de 1800 habitants !
Il date du 17ème siècle et a été acquis par la paroisse en 1795.
Il provient de la chapelle de la Visitation à Aix qui l’avait reçu en don de Laure Marcinozzi, duchesse de Modène, nièce du cardinal Mazarin.
L’iconographie du retable est en relation avec l’ordre de la Visitation : au centre, la toile de la Visitation, entourée de part et d’autre de la Présentation de la Vierge et de la Nativité.
