Projections of the Past (Explore! 3/24/25)

            This is a new application of a lens that my family has owned and used since the 1960's. The Lens is a Argus Anastigmat 4 inch f3.3 lens from my parents old slide projector. After my mother passed away I became the care taker of a lot of the old family photographs, slides and this projector. The darn thing still works on its original bulb! 

All I had to do was pull the lens out of the projector, tape on a M42 to 52mm adaptor ring to the back of the lens body and thread it onto a M42 helicoid to to a thin mount M42 to Canon RF adaptor. And I was off! 
There is no aperture in this lens, so everything is wide open. Why this lens is rated at f3.3 is beyond me. Its a large lens with a very large opening at the back for light to pass through.

Anyhow, its an interesting lens to use. It flares super easy so I pretty much have to have the light source behind me or off to the side. The look is very unique.
Very "vintage." 

For this image I did very little editing. Just a camera profile was added and a very small amount of contrast added. Otherwise this is basically what it looked like as I looked through the camera.
