Etruscan antefix depicting the head of Medusa

            Etruscan polychrome terracotta antefix depicting the head of Medusa - one of the Gorgons - with a large floral nimbus, her head surrounded by snakes, and her tongue hanging out between two sets of fangs. Numerous copies were positioned along the roof ridgeline on the sides of the temple, alternating with the heads of Silenos, maenads, and Achelous (a horned river god).
