Monofilament fishing line recycling station in Pass Christian Mississippi

            A monofilament recycling station is installed on a wharf in Pass Christian Harbor, encouraging fishermen to properly dispose of discarded fishing line, Feb. 24, 2019, in Pass Christian, Mississippi. The Mississippi Monofilament Recycling Program began in 2008 in an effort to reduce the amount of discarded fishing line that makes its way into the water, potentially harming marine life, divers, and boat propellers that become entangled in it. Monofilament fishing line is non-biodegradable and can take as long as 600 years to break down. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has installed the receptacles at 23 public piers and boat launches in Mississippi.
