Leaving the nest!

            When I spotted this woodpecker hole in Kinclaven right by the path I could not believe my luck. I got some nice static shots then I decided to try this as I thought with its 20 FPS the R5 would give me a chance to combine the images. I could have done with a faster lens as it was quite dark... but you have what you gave with you... I'd been there to shoot landscapes. Thinking about it anyway actually the f4 of my 70-200mm is the fastest telephoto I have anyway. I used to have the f2.8 but I found I used that focal range for landscapes more and the f2.8 was soo heavy so I traded it in the the f4. 

The original images where fairly grainy and dark and I've pulled the exposure and noise back a lot in post to get what I think is a passable on screen image... just don't zoom in! LOL But as a shot that just captures the drama of the woodpecker leaving the nest... I quite like it. It's defo something to try again with better original images... but as a first go... Im quite pleased with it! Also as a learning experience about using the PreSet settings on my camera... its taught me a few things to change to make my life a bit easier in the field! 

I also wish I'd shot it a bit wider so I could have used the shot after the one I ended up using... but I'd cropped too much of the bird out by that shot and I felt with what I had this gave the best overall image.
