Córdoba is a city in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia and the capital of the province of Córdoba. It was once an important Roman city and a major center of Islam in the Middle Ages. The city's most famous structure is the Mezquita, a huge mosque from 784 with a portico and Byzantine-era mosaics. The mosque was converted into a Catholic church in 1236, and a Renaissance-style nave was added in the 17th century. (Google)
