Tarana Railway Station - Central Tablelands NSW - built from 1872 - see below

The extension of the western railway line from Rydal to beyond Tarana was contracted to D Williams in 1868 and finished in 1872. Tarana station and residence was opened in April 1872 with a single line and a crossing loop for locomotive watering. The line was duplicated in 1916 when the footbridge and present signal box were added. When the Tarana to Oberon branch line (which lies entirely outside Greater Lithgow) was opened in 1923 further modifications were made to the station. The water-stand (A082) was built in 1906. From 1873 until 1912 the post Office was located at the station, which also after 1896 housed the Government Savings Bank. The station has retained all its features except the goods warehouse but since the early 1990s has been unmanned.
