Empire Hotel, Inverell NSW, built 1900 - see below

"The building dates from one of the key period of layers for the development of Inverell as a direct result of the Henderson subdivision of 1859. It is a good example of a late Victorian hotel which makes a positive contribution to the streetscape. The last hotel in Inverell retaining its original verandah, on an important corner site opposite the main bridge and entry to the town across the Macintyre River.
A large and prominently located two storey rendered brick corner hotel. Hipped iron roof with rendered parapets containing a variety of arches and pediments. Two storey verandah to both sides with hipped iron roof and decorative cast iron balustrade, supported on simple paired timber posts, the bottoms of which have been replaced by concrete blocks. Chamfered corner and large stuccoed chimneys. In the rear courtyard there is a large brick pavilion with clerestorey light - possibly was a billiard room. Much original joinery, chimney pieces, pressed metal ceilings, coloured glass fanlights, front door with sidelights and transom. Some of the ground floor rooms have been altered. Unsympathetic ground floor aluminium windows. The end of the building facing Campbell St appears to have been added later."
