The photograph was taken in the Gerlich studio in Neuruppin. The card was sent from soldier Ernst to his friend Erich Ganslin in Charlottenburg (Berlin) on 10 January 1915. Ernst was part of the infantry regiment Großherzog Friedrich Franz II von Mecklenburg-Schwerin (4. Brandenburgisches) No. 24 (IR24).
