MOUCAR 0639 - a photo on Flickriver

MOUCAR 0639

            Mountain Caracara, Phalcoboenus megalopterus, 52 - 56 cm. / 20 - 22 in.  High Andean grasslands, wetlands and cliffs, 2000-5000 m / 6562-16,404 ft.  This is the same bird as in 0631 approaching a Vicuna carcass (rib cage) seen at lower right of the frame.  It was difficult to ascertain if the Vicuna had been killed by the landslide or drowned in the river, or a combination.

Near Putre, Arica Y Parinacota Region, Chile.
