British Regulars Line Up in Formation

It's Patriots' Day here in Massachusetts, which means two things around the Boston area: the running of the Boston Marathon and local commemorations and celebrations of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, where the first shots of the American Revolutionary War were fired (referred to as the "shot heard 'round the world" in Emerson's famous "Concord Hymn").

One big part of these commemorations is to stage reenactments of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and I attended several of these over the past few days and snapped a bunch of photos. This series contains some of the better photos from these events. It all put a real face on events that I had only read about in history books. I finally realized what an amazing thing it must have been that these groups of rag-tag farmers who had formed militias were able to rout some of King George's elite troops.

These photos represent a bit of a change of pace from my usual landscape, waterscape, and cityscape shots, but I had a lot of fun taking these photos and figuring out how to photograph what is essentially a "made up" event where the "old" things are mixed in with the modern.

In this photo, I liked the expression captured on the 3rd soldier's face.
