Le temple d'Amour et le château de Saint-Georges-Motel (Eure)

Le château de Saint-Georges-Motel a été construit au XVIIs. sur les fondations d'un château plus ancien. Situé en bordure de l'Eure, il est entouré de douves en eau. Son parc créé par Le Nôtre a été transformé au XIXe s. en jardin paysager par Louis-Sulpice Varé (créateur de nombreux parcs paysagers français dont celui du Bois-de-Boulogne).
Winston Churchill a passé quelques étés dans les années 1930 dans cette résidence de famille, invité notamment par Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan ex-duchesse de Marlborough. Il y a peint quelques tableaux.
Ce château est connu pour avoir abrité Henri IV, Churchill et Goebbels comme le mentionne cet intéressant article de l'Echo Républicain.

Aujourd'hui, le château est privé, ne se visite pas et a été acheté par le cousin de l'Emir du Qatar.

The castle of Saint-Georges-Motel was built in the XVIIs. on the foundations of an older castle. Located on the edge of the Eure, it is surrounded by water moats. Its park created by Le Nôtre was transformed in the nineteenth century into a landscaped garden by Louis-Sulpice Varé (creator of many French landscaped parks including that of Bois-de-Boulogne).
Winston Churchill spent a few summers in the 1930s in this family residence, invited by Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan ex-duchess of Marlborough. He painted some paintings.
This castle is known for having sheltered Henri IV, Churchill and Goebbels as mentioned in this interesting article of the Republican Echo.

Today the castle is private and was bought by the cousin of the Emir of Qatar.
