The Tower and the Gadget - a photo on Flickriver

            Replica of the tower constructed at Trinity Site, the place in New Mexico where the first atomic bomb test occurred. The tested bomb used plutonium as the fissile material and an implosion to slam enough of that material together to form a critical mass. The spherical object hanging by a cable near the bottom of the image is a replica of the tested bomb, called 'the gadget' by Robert Oppenheimer.
