Mevagissey - inner harbour at low tide

            Mevagissey is a beautiful fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall where it sits in a natural harbour formed by the gap in two hillsides. The first harbour recorded here was constructed in about 1430, and over the years this gradually fell into a state of decay. New quays were built over the ruins in around 1770, and this became the inner harbour. The outer harbour - beyond the wall - was constructed towards the end of the 19th century, but soon had to be rebuilt after severe storm damage. The two harbours are home to the second largest fishing fleet in Cornwall. At low tide the inner harbour virtually empties out and unless they've gone out to sea or moved to the outer harbour the boats are left resting on the mud.
