Looe & the Looe River, Cornwall - a photo on Flickriver

            The beautiful little fishing town of Looe is on the south-east coast of Cornwall, and sits either side of the Looe River. in the 1800s this was a very important port, handling the export of tin and copper ore from the mines in the east of Bodmin Moor, and the import of coal and other goods. The arrival of the railway and the decline of the mining industry not only reduced the reliance on the port but also opened up the town to visitors. The old warehouses on the east side of the river have now been converted into shops and residential premises. On the immediate right of the picture is the boathouse for two rigid inflatable lifeboats - a small one for inshore work which can accommodate up to five survivors and a larger one which can accommodate up to 20 survivors.
