I was going to title this image "I Can See For Miles". Like all high points in mountains around the world, on a clear day you can see forever, but when the weather isn't accommodating, you can hardly see five feet in front of you.

I took this photo from the top of the Clingmans Dome observation tower on Clingmans Dome, which is now called by it's Cherokee name, Kuwohi. (I used the Cherokee characters in the description above.) At first I wondered what the heck was printed on the signs. But figured out pretty soon that the signs around the park near the reservation and in the town of Cherokee are in the Cherokee language and printed in the Cherokee alphabet.

The Great Smokies are unlike most mountain ranges I've seen. They seem to go on forever, and the way the light hits the peaks as the sun rises is most magical. (on a clear day, that is. 😄)

This is the first image I'm posting from my trip to Tennessee, which lasted 9 days from May 30th through June 7th. I began in Memphis, then drove the Natchez Trace to Nashville, and ended the trip with a few days in Gatlinburg, the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The weather was perfect. The experience was fantastic. And the images filled 5 each 128GB SD cards,
