Bird of Paradise Juvenile - a photo on Flickriver

A juvenile Victoria's Riflebird, Ptiloris victoriae, the smallest of the riflebirds, was part of some courtship displays that I was so amazed to see. Not only to see this juvenile practising his routine, but also the adult male and female as well - seen in some of my other shots of this series.

It was a spur of the moment decision for me to stay in this area AND it was several months outside the riflebirds normal time for this to happen! Yes I reckon I won an avian lottery to see such brilliance.

The juvenile male does not gain his full colours until he is 7 years old, but the way this one was performing so well he must be very near maturity I'm guessing.
