Trillium carpets the Aman Park woodland trail early

            Long-time residents of the area note that Mothers Day, the first Sunday in May, is typically the peak for blooms. But this panorama comes from April 23, with the avant garde blossoming a week before this, then slowed by the intervening night temperatures reaching just below freezing. The weekends in particular draw throngs of people, many with dogs on leash. Wildflowers in spring, deep shade and cooling rush of the Sand Creek in summer, riotous fall colors, and winter's solitude attract visitors, many of them from nearby Grand Rapids, which runs the park, despite its location 12 miles west of the city and within the boundaries of Ottawa County. The man who gave the land specified that the city would be its trustee. The same conditions applied the an adjoining gift made by another local resident a few years later.

Even with so many modern-day distractions and ways to dissipate one's energies, it is good to know that some people seek out places not dominated by humans as a form of refreshment or relief, therapy for mind and heart. Particularly during the Trump Virus, outdoor places have attracted mny more visitors.
