Fire Island Reflections - a photo on Flickriver

            Do not be fooled by the illusion of the sunset on the left; it's actually reflected sunlight from below the horizon, bouncing off the clouds. At least, that's what I think this is. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. The sun set at 5:38 that late winter afternoon, and this photo was taken 14 minutes later. The actual sunset is the orange smudge on the right, with the crowd of watchers who drifted westward down the beach, following. This was one of the warmest of recent days, but it was still winter, and the water was 39 degrees. And yes, the surf washed over my feet and ankles more than a few times, but it was worth it. I was smiling the whole drive home. Fire Island, NY -- February 23,
